Russian Women’s Handball Super League

Russian Women’s Handball Super League betting tips

Russian Women’s Super League Betting Tips/h2>

The Russian Women’s Super League is the top women’s handball competition in Russia. As of the 2019/20 season, it was ranked the third best European handball league, behind the Hungarian Nemzeti Bajnokság and the Romanian Liga Nationala.

Its pedigree means that the Russian Super League is a great option for online betting, with great odds found on every fixture available at any of our best betting sites.

Competition Background And Format

Founded in 1993 after the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the Russian Superleague was made up of 11 teams originally, but as of the 2019/20 season this was increased to 12 sides including sides from Krasnodar, Moscow, Rostov and Volgograd.

The sides play each other twice, once home, and once away, in a double round robin format, to determine their finishing position in the league. The top six sides take part in the championship play-offs, with the top two finishers receiving a bye to the semi-final. The one-off fixture of a playoff ensures that these games are incredibly competitive, with the potential of upsets being much higher than in the regular league season.

These fixtures, with reasonably priced odds, are a main draw for many involved in online betting. The winners of the play-offs become national champions and also gain access to Europe’s top handball competition, the prestigious EHF Champions League, another fantastic avenue for handball betting.

Key Teams In The Russian Super League

Dinamo Volgograd

Dinamo Volgograd (previously known as Rotor Volgograd and Akva Volgograd) are the most successful Russian side in Handball history. It has won the Super League on twelve occasions, six more than the second most successful side, Lada Togliatti.

These successes for the Volgograd side included winning six titles in a row between 2009 and 2014, the most consecutive titles won in the division. Their most recent league victory, however, was in 2014. Dinamo also holds the only record for a perfect season, winning all of its matches in the 2001/02 season on the way to winning their sixth title.

Rostov-Don

The most successful side in recent history, Rostov-Don have emerged victors in four of the last five seasons, and were unbeaten in the 2019/20 league season, before the COVID-19 pandemic postponed the season.

The only blemish on their record had been a draw to second-placed Togliatti, and Rostov-Don looked well on course to win a fourth consecutive title, and a sixth overall, which would have taken them to joint second in the all-time wins of the competition.

In addition to this, the side have won the Russian Cup on nine occasions, and are often a safe bet to do well in any given season, with odds that reflect this.
