Swedish Svensk Handbollselit Betting Tips
The Svensk handbollselit (Elitserien until 2016) is the women’s top handball division in Sweden. The league began in 1951, and as of the 2019/20 season consists of 12 teams.
Swedish Women’s Handball League Format
The twelve teams play each other twice, once home and once away, in a double round-robin format before the top eight sides enter into a play-off tournament. The team that finished first is drawn against the side that finished eighth, second against seventh, and so on.
The unpredictable and competitive aspect that the one-off style of the play-offs brings to the league is one of the biggest draws to handbollselit betting, with EagleBet offering some of the best betting tips on the market.
At the bottom of the table, the bottom placed side is relegated automatically. The 9th to 11th place sides enter a one-off game against the teams placed 2nd to 4th in the Swedish second tier. The importance of these games, combined with the similar quality of teams in the fixtures, means that these are fantastic opportunities for online betting, with great odds offered on these fixtures.
Handbollselit Historic Success
The division has largely been dominated by two sides, IK Savehof and Kvinnliga IK Sport. Both teams have won the competition fourteen times. Historically, Kvinnliga IK Sport were the most successful, winning the competition 10 out of the first 11 seasons which it ran, between 1951 and 1961. However, the Gothenburg based club are no longer in the top division of Swedish handball, last winning the top division in 1972.
IK Savehof Ascension
IK Savehof’s success is far more recent; having won their first title in 1993, the club have won 12 of the last 14 to dominate the Swedish handball division. Before the premature end to the 2019/20 season as a result of the COVID-19 Pandemic, they sat in third place, with a great chance to retain their title. Their strong form means that they are always offered at relatively short odds, but can be a fantastic option in any gambler’s arsenal if used correctly.
A more recently successful side is Hoors HK H 65, the only side to challenge IK Savehof’s dominance. Although it only joined the Handbollselit in 2012, Hoors reached the semi-finals of the play-offs, before being knocked out by Savehof. In the following season, they won the EHF Challenge Cup, the third tier European handball competition.
They also won the 2016/17 Swedish Championship, defeating Savehof 27-25 in the play-off final to claim their first ever domestic title. Despite their relative inexperience in the division, they are a fantastic option for online betting in the Swedish Handball market, and their success can be found at great odds on EagleBet’s trusted online sportsbooks.
