What Is Virtual Sports Betting?

virtual-sports-betting

Virtual Sports Betting is one of the latest phenomenons sportsbooks and bettors have started to get behind as it brings about an endless number of opportunities for money to be made, regardless of what side of the fence they are on.

So, what is Virtual Sports Betting? Well, to put it simply, it is a computer-generated game of a particular sport that bettors are able to place wagers on in a number of different markets. The events are generally a lot shorter than the live events and are the result of unbiased computer algorithms.

Virtual Sports Growth

It has become such a huge area of business for bookmakers and sportsbooks, that many of the top companies within the industry offer it to their members, with a vast array of sports on offer. Football, horse racing, dog racing and motorsports are just a few of the numerous sports that are available currently as the rather new innovation continues to take off.

Virtual Sports vs eSports

Virtual Sports Betting is not to be confused with eSports Betting, though, as there are some rather clear differences to both categories. The main difference between the two is that eSports are usually competed by actual physical players, whether they be as an individual or they compete within a team, whereas Virtual Sports Betting is completely computer generated and the outcome has not been determined because of the outright action of a physical being.

Another clear difference is that eSports Betting is based on actual game titles, such as FIFA, Fortnite and League of Legends to name a few, whereas Virtual Sports Betting is based on actual physical sport.

Betting On Virtual Sports

Placing a bet on a Virtual Sport could not be any easier, either. With events taking place on a 24/7 basis, it is just like placing a wager on a sporting event that is taking place live. Although there are not as many in-play bets that you would be able to find as the live-action unfolds, there are still plenty of different markets available to place wagers on.

As with every style of bet that is made available, there are always positives and negatives that need to be considered when choosing to have a go at Virtual Sports Betting.

Some of the positives to have come out of the relatively new markets include the ability to place bets whenever you want as most of the virtual sports events run 24/7 whilst there is also an event usually taking place at almost every moment, as there is little waiting times and no such need to wait for those events taking live to start.

Another positive that Virtual Sports Betting brings include that they are relatively short events, therefore allowing for punters to place a number of wagers on different events and not have to wait for the whole duration. For example, a football match takes 90 minutes when played live, however, a virtual one will take just a fraction of that time and be over in minutes.

However, these benefits can become dangerous negatives if bettors are not careful as it can become extremely easy to be immersed in the virtual reality they present. With events almost available all the time, there is a real concern that they can take over and cause some punters trouble, especially as there is no normal sporting calendar being followed.

One other drawback that Virtual Sports Betting can bring is that it does not usually allow for players to cash-out, therefore meaning once the bet is placed, it is either won or entirely lost with no chance to try and redeem a partial amount back if things do not go in favour of the bettor.
